Philadelphia based clothing brand,Ikiré Jones, believes that Beyoncé and Jay-Z used their brands work as reference for their new Apesh*t video. In a recent Instagram post, the brand highlighted similarities between their clothing aesthetics and the clothing and visual choices used in the Apesh*t video. They later show respect (or shade) to the Apesh*t videos creative team.

The Instagram comment section were filled with posts stating that the claims were false, stating that “no idea is original”, “Serious question… Can someone own an aesthetic?”, and “Don’t see a correlation”.

Other comments agreed with the brand stating “I thought of you immediately when I saw their video” and “The minute I saw the video I thought you styled the video. This video looked like it came from your aesthetic. A think piece needs to be written about his and how Nas took his album cover from an underground. It’s Robbin season this summer.”

Ikiré Jones created several pieces for the Black Panther movie. Their story is an ambitious one, they reached out to Marvel Studios on Twitter and was hired for the job.

Although Ikiré Jones sees similarities in his work and Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Apesh*t Video, the aesthetics in the designs are based off of previous artist work and cultural clothing. With that being said Beyoncé and Jay-Z could have found inspiration for the video in other ways other than the Ikiré Jones clothing brand. But with Ikiré Jones brand creating a significant name for themselves through the Black Panther franchise it is possible that the super couples creative team found inspiration from their work.

What do you think?

All in all we’re just happy to have some extremely good music accompanied by some dope visuals. If they did draw inspiration from Ikiré Jones then the correct thing to do would be to show creative acknowledgement. OTR II Tour Tickets on sale now.
