While some Artists are collectively banning the use of cell phones at their shows, others are embracing it. According to The Industry Reporter Paul Rosenberg (Eminem’s former manager & current chief executive for Def Jam) teamed up with an LA-based multimedia production shop Drive Studios to create a new concert experience though your phone.

“We figured, if the phones are going to be there [at concerts] and people are going to be putting them up in the air and looking at them anyway why don’t we provide a way to maybe change the way they’re perceiving the show,”

Eminem’s concert experience will be geo-tagged and time-stamped so that it’s only visible within a few hundred meters of the stage.

“We figured, if the phones are going to be there [at concerts] and people are going to be putting them up in the air and looking at them anyway why don’t we provide a way to maybe change the way they’re perceiving the show,” Rosenberg said.

According to Eminem’s official website, the first six songs of his set all include AR activations.

Drive Studios’ creative director, Rich Lee has been working with Eminem since 2010 when the duo worked on the video for ‘Not Afraid‘.

“We started talking about getting VR and AR for a while,” said Lee. “It’s only recently come about that this technology has come around to the point where we feel we could pull this stuff off.” said Rich Lee

The Eminem Augmented app also includes ‘AR Anywhere’ experiences, which include Shady’s World Portal. Check it out by clicking the link.

APPLE MAY BE ACQUIRING NETFLIX IN THE NEAR FUTURE

Apple wants you to Netflix & Chill.

Apple has been wanting ownership of major video distribution since the inception of the iPhone & iPod touch. Citigroup analysts said, in a recent note to investors, that Cupertino-based Apple is interested in making a major acquisition of a car company, video game company or entertainment company, with Netflix being their most likely target.

How is this possible?

“Historically, Apple has avoided repatriating cash to the US to avoid high taxation. As such, tax reform may allow Apple to put this cash to use. With over 90% of its cash sitting overseas, a one-time 10% repatriation tax would give Apple $220 billion for M&A or buybacks.”

Apple has about $252 billion in cash, much of it in foreign jurisdictions, which they were previously unable to bring back to the US. Thanks to the new tax reform, corporate companies get a one time allowance to repatriate cash stored overseas without a major tax hit which will allow Apple access to their foreign funds. The company only needs one-third of that amount to acquire Netflix’s streaming service.
